Fields: Add/Edit Theme

Add/Edit Theme lets you add new themes to your system, or edit the information for existing themes. Each theme has an associated CSS file that defines the styles for that theme and how Searching will be displayed. If you create a new theme, you must specify the CSS file to be used for that theme. When you edit a theme, you can edit theme information such as the code, name, description, and the location of the associated CSS file. To edit style information for a specific theme, you must edit the CSS file associated with that theme.

In order for a new or modified theme to display in Searching, you must associate it with a search profile. For more information, see Changing the custom page elements for a search profile.

Themes > Add Theme

Profiles > Other Profile Options > Configure Custom Page Elements > Add Theme

When you create or edit a theme, you must specify unique values for some fields. If you enter information for a theme that is currently being used for another theme, the software highlights the field where the non-unique value appears and displays an error message indicating that the value is already being used by another theme and that the information you enter must be unique to the theme that you are adding or editing.

When you have finished entering data on the page, click OK to save your changes, or click Cancel to discard your changes and return to Themes.

Those fields marked with an asterisk ( * ) are required. If you do not enter information for a field that is required, the software prompts you that the information is missing.

Theme Name

Displays the name of the theme that you are currently editing.

Note: This name does not display if you are adding a new theme.

Code

Specifies a unique code for this theme (up to 30 characters). This code is used on Themes and on other pages that display the theme code.

Note: This value must be unique. If you enter a code that is already being used elsewhere on the system and try to save the theme, the software displays an error message indicating that the value must be unique, and informing you that the value you entered is already being used for another theme.

Name

Specifies the system name of the theme (up to 80 characters) for the specified language. This name is used on Themes and on other pages in the Admin console that display the theme name.

For this field, you can also specify an alternate name for a specific language. Choose the language from the drop-down list of supported languages in the Admin console, then enter the localized name in the field.

Note: If your web browser is configured to use a display language that is not supported by Portfolio and you have chosen to display the Admin console in a language other than the default language (en_US), the language that displays in the drop-down list of supported languages defaults to US English.

If a localized name already exists for a specific language, the software displays that language name differently in the drop-down list. When you enter a localized name for a specific language, the language name appears with a “++” suffix. If you clear the localized name for a specific language, the software displays the language name without the different formatting.

After you add a new theme and associate it with a search profile, when you update the name for that theme, the name is automatically updated for any associated search profiles.

Description

Specifies a text description of this theme (up to 255 characters).

Note: This field is optional.

Source URL

Specifies the source URL (up to 256 characters) for the CSS file associated with this theme. The source URL is the location of the CSS file for this theme. This may be an absolute URL or a relative URL that uses conventional URL syntax. A relative URL must begin with “/” to be valid. An absolute URL must begin with “http://” or “https://” in order to be valid.

Note: This value must be a valid URL. If you enter a URL that is not a valid URL, the software displays an error message indicating that the URL is invalid.

Important: The root of relative URLs depends on your server configuration. Check with your system administrator for help with relative URLs.

Mobile Source URL

Specifies the source URL for the mobile version of the CSS file associated with this theme. The source URL is the location of the mobile version of the CSS file for this theme. This may be an absolute URL or a relative URL that uses conventional URL syntax. A relative URL must begin with "/" to be valid. An absolute URL must begin with "http://" or "https://" in order to be valid.

Note: This value must be a valid URL. If you enter a URL that is not a valid URL, the software displays an error message indicating that the URL is invalid.

Important: The root of a relative URL depends on your server configuration. Check with your system administrator for help with relative URLs.

Set as default

Specifies whether this theme should be used as the default theme for the system. The default theme is used to display Searching in absence of a designated theme, if only the base URL is specified in the custom page elements for a search profile, or if the search profile is configured to use the “Use Default Theme” option.

Select this option to change which theme is designated as the default theme. If another theme is already set as the default theme, when you select Set as Default and click OK for a different theme, that theme becomes the new default theme on the system.

Note: You must specify a default theme on the system. If you are currently editing the default theme, this checkbox is disabled and this value cannot be modified. Only one theme on the system can be set as the default.

You can associate a theme with a profile when you configure the custom page elements for that profile. When you specify the theme to use for a search profile, you can select the “Use Default Theme” option. Any profile configured to use the “Use Default Theme” option will display the theme that you designate as the default theme. If you later change the default theme, all profiles that are set to the “Use Default Theme” option will use the new default theme. This allows you to make changes to multiple search profiles that use the default theme instead of updating individual search profiles.
